If you need to replace a pump from a system, the first thing to do is ensure that you identify the direction of flow for the pump and its pipework. Then, if you are going to replace it, make sure you have used the details from the old pump when you are buying the new one. A Holloway Plumber can fit a CH pump.

Process:

1). Make sure that the CH power supply is isolated at the consumer unit to make sure that the direct electrical feed to the pump is off. Turn off the spindle operated water valves either side of the pump C H pumps will only rotate in one direction and have a flow arrow marked on the casing to help when the pump is being installed or replaced.

2). Disconnect the electrical power on the pump by unscrewing and removing the cover of the terminal box which is normally fitted on the side of the pump. Use a tester to confirm that there is no voltage present at the pumps electrical terminals. If you are not confident do not attempt this job you must call a professional service like Holloway Plumbers.

Top Tip: It helps to make a diagram of all connections to help with reconnection.

3). There will also be a dial or screw fitted so that the speed of the pump can be adjusted in situe. Once disconnected you can then undo the nuts on the pipe and remove the pump. Then either fit the new pump or carry out the work and replace as required, then bleed the pump and system.

Note:

This type of motor is made to run quietly. Although, you will feel a slight vibration. The bigger screw situated on top of the pump is the bleed screw and is fitted to allow any air in the pump to be bled out. These pumps cannot self-prime, so if air was to get in, the pump would not be able to get rid of it until it is bled out at the screw. This is done by loosening the screw slightly until the hissing sound stops and then tightening the screw back up again.
