When a pipe splits pipe it is said to be a water emergency, if not sorted it could cause serious damage to the very structure of a property and electrical system. The split could be due to freezing water inside that has expanded. Holloway Plumbers can carry out emergency repairs. It is critical to carry out some action as quickly but safely as possible. When a pipe splits, follow this advice: Isolate the water supply, by turning off the main stop. This is usually found under the kitchen sink or where the main supply pipework comes into the home. Now drain the whole system by opening up all the cold water taps and also flush the toilet(s). Isolate the central heating system, immersion heater and if required any other water heating facility.

If the central heating burns solid fuel, allow it to burn itself out. Once water heating has shut down, turn on the hot taps to help drain the system. If you think the water is going to breach your main electrical outlets or any electrical appliance, isolate the mains straight away. If the mains switch is wet, don’t touch it or you could risk electrocution. If you notice the leak quickly you can catch dripping water in buckets. A burst pipe is serious so if you are not confident, then call in a professional plumber like a Holloway Plumber to repair the burst. And if you have a home emergency policy that covers you for burst pipes get in touch with your insurer as soon as possible. Use loft insulation.
Insulate your water pipework.
Try to keep your loft warm on chilly days by perhaps opening up the loft door.
Isolate the water supply pipe to your house and drain the pipes if you go on holiday.
Stay on top of plumbing maintenance problems like dripping taps as these can freeze if the temperature drops
